I never thought I'd be a runner.

Yesterday, the mercury officially hit 90 degrees as I stepped out my front door to head to the lakefront for some speed work. Now, this is my normalcy. Today, the sun rose at 5:22 AM. As the dawn’s light brimmed over the horizon, I was already nearing mile 3 of my 6.2 mile (10k) training run. The 18 weeks of training that lead to a marathon can be exhilarating and down right painful. Yet, somehow those of us that choose to return to distance running endure that combination, and maintain our own reasons for treading the highs and lows that inevitably knock your mind and body as you progress to 26.2.

When I thought of starting a blog devoted to what many friends refer to as my “insane” hobby, I thought, “Who has time to write a blog?” Then I realized, if you have something to share, you will find the time, or the time will find you.

This blog has yet to reveal my story, and the inspirational stories that have truly changed my life. You will learn why a promise made 3 years ago, led me to discover something I never anticipated – more about myself.

When the sun rises on October 10th 2010 (10.10.10 – Chicago Marathon), I hope to have played some small part in encouraging someone through this blog to lace up their running shoes, and find their happy pace. With that, welcome to Girl on the Run Chicago’s inaugural blog.

I know I run like a girl. Try to keep up.
