When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. ~Franklin D. Roosevelt

Everything you make of yourself in your lifetime takes work. If this is news to you, I’m sorry to be bursting your bubble, but it’s true. From the moment you enter this world to the moment you leave, the cycle never ends.
Whether you are 4 months old – learning how to roll over and testing the waters to sit up, or a college graduate – navigating your way through a professional realm predominantly overwhelmed by closed doors…
No matter where you are in your lifetime, you’re always working to become the next version of yourself – to achieve that next step. This applies to every facet of life – family, friends, work, love, etc. Face it, the big man upstairs isn't going to make it easy.

Needless to say, there are those moments when we are most cognizant of just how darn hard it can be to work through all of this. Resiliency is a funny thing. It kicks in just when you need it most. On Saturday morning, I ventured out to the lakefront path to get going on my 17 mile training run. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy, and with multiple stress factors weighing on my mind, I was ready to give up as I came upon mile 15.

At that moment, I spotted my sister Megan’s running group. Megan is training for her first marathon, and has decided to run her long distance training runs with the Chicago Area Runners Association. She was nearing mile 13 as I was approaching 15, and I chose to round out the last 2 miles with her by my side. For the record, she rocked the last 2 of her 15 miles. When all was said and done, I had completed my 17 mile run on a day I felt certain I couldn’t push passed 15. I headed home happy and feeling accomplished from my morning’s run.

It made me think of a quote I keep up on my desk. It reads,
"There will be days you don't think you can run a marathon. There will be a lifetime of knowing you have."

Everything you make of yourself in your lifetime takes work. There will be those days when you can’t quite do it all. In the end, however, there remains a lifetime of achievement.

This Saturday – 18 miles – looking forward to it….

I know I run like a girl. Try to keep up.
